Bir aydır aralıksız gezdikten sonra ilk defa yerleşik hayata geçtim. Rosario’dan sonra Cordoba’ya geldim ve bir ay boyunca gönüllü çalışacağım hostele yerleştim. Karşılığında bir ay bedava kalacağım. Hem deneyim edinmek hem de masraflarımı kısmak için gönüllü işler yapmak istiyordum.

Bulunduğum yeri anlatmadan önce biraz bu sistemden bahsetmek istiyorum. Ben iş bulmak için workaway.info sitesini kullanıyorum. Bunun gibi birçok başka site de mevcut. Ama en kapsamlı olan benim kullandığım sanırım. Sitede dünyanın her yerinden ilanları görmeniz mümkün. Kullanımı da oldukça kolay. Sadece siteye üye olmak için yıllık bir ücret ödemeniz gerekiyor. Böylece siteye üye olanların aktif kullanıcı olduğunu garantilemiş oluyorlar. Sitede istediğiniz ülkeyi ve şehri seçiyorsunuz. Önünüze iş ilanları düşüyor. Her host sunduğu imkanları detaylı bir şekilde anlatıyor. Ayrıca önceden burada gönüllü olarak çalışmış insanların referanslarını da görüyorsunuz. Eğer size uygun olduğunu düşünürseniz kendilerine mesaj atıyorsunuz ve tarih konusunda anlaşıyorsunuz.

Ben daha fazla gezginle tanışmak ve genç bir kitle ile beraber olmak istediğim için hostellere baktım. Ama hostel dışında ingilizce öğretmenliğinden tutun da organik tarım yapan bir çiftlikte çalışmaya kadar yelpaze geniş. İleride ekip biçmeyi öğrenebileceğim bir çiftlikte çalışmak istiyorum. Ama bunu Kolombiya’ya sakladım. Çünkü Şili’de sahilin tadını çıkartmak için hostellerde çalışmayı planlıyorum.

Burada yaptığım iş basit. Haftada üç gün resepsiyonda çalışıyorum. Check in check out’ları yapıyorum. Resepsiyonda satışını yaptığımız şeylerden sorumluyum. Her mesai bitiminde de çöpleri boşaltıp tuvaletlerin yerini siliyorum. Çalışma zamanları haftalık hazırlanıyor. Ne hikmetse beni hep geceye aldılar. O yüzden biraz uyku düzenim bozuldu. Çünkü gece 00:00’den sabah 08:00’e kadar çalışıyorum. Gündüz uyuyorum. Vampir stayla.

Ayrıca ilk mesaimi Cuma, Cumartesi ve Pazar gecesine yazmışlar. Sabaha kadar sarhoşlarla uğraşmak zorunda kaldım. Clubtan dönüp arkadaşını kaybettiğini söyleyenler. Sen de bizimle gel, dans edeceğiz diye kolumdan çekenler. Ben sana yardım edeceğim uyumayacağım deyip benimle çöp toplayanlar. Oda arkadaşı kapıyı kitlediği için dışarıda kalanlar. Yemin ediyorum alkolden soğudum. Lan dedim biz de mi sarhoşken böyle oluyoruz? Ayık kafayla izlemek keyifli de insan kendine üzülüyor azıcık ahahah.

Kaldığım hostel sanatçıları da destekliyor. Bu yüzden geldiğimde türk bir sanatçı vardı. Otele iki tane duvar resmi yaptı. Aylar sonra Türkçe konuşma keyfi 😁

Bir ayımı burada geçirdikten sonra birkaç günlüğüne Mendoza’yı ziyaret edip Şili’ye geçmeyi planlıyorum. Şili’de bulunan arkadaşım sayesinde de para kazanabileceğim bir iş bulma ümidindeyim. Ayrıca çizimlerimi kartpostal gibi bastırıp sokakta satmayı deneyeceğim. Çünkü Arjantin ve Şili pahalı ülkeler ve hesapladığımdan daha çok para harcıyorum. Bir şekilde bunu dengelemem lazım. Yani öyle “Ay dünyayı dolaşıyor, ne güzel zengindir kesin” gibi bir durum yok. Tanıştığım birçok gezgin de aynı benim gibi işler yapıyor. Yola devam etmek için bir şeyler yapmak şart.

Minik bir not. Hostellerle direkt konuşarak da gönüllü işi bulmanız mümkün. Çünkü hepsi buna alışkın. Genelde de size verecek işleri oluyor. Ben workaway.info’dan ayarlayıp gitmeyi tercih ediyorum daha garanti olduğu için. Ama ola ki bir yerde kalakaldınız. Hostelleri kapı kapı da dolaşabilirsiniz.

Cordoba nasıl kısmına geliyorum. Cordoba, Arjantin’in eski şehirlerinden biri. Aşırı büyük bir yer değil. Ama dağların eteğinde kurulmuş bir şehir. Bu yüzden trekking veya hiking kültürü oldukça yaygın. Ayrıca Che Guevara çocukken astım hastalığının azalması için ailesiyle Cordoba’nın Alta Gracia adındaki bir kasabasına geliyor ve çocukluğunu burada geçiriyor. Havasının nemsiz olması nedeniyle hastalığı oldukça düzeliyor. Cordoba’dan 20₺ gibi bir ücret vererek otobüsle bu kasabaya gitmeniz mümkün. Che’nin yaşadığı evi de müzeleştirdikleri için ziyarete açık. Onun dışında kasabada birkaç müze daha var. Toplu bilet alınca ucuz oluyor diye biz hepsini gezdik ama diğer insanlar kim diye sorarsanız bilmiyorum. “He evet bu da önemli bir insanmış” diyerek gezdim 😂

After traveling nonstop for a month, I will stay in a place for a month. I came to Cordoba from Rosario by hitchhiking. (It was fun. Don’t worry!) I started to stay in the hostel where I’ll work for a month for free accommodation. So I will gain different experiences and waste less money.

Before talking about where I am, I want to give details about this volunteering system. I am using workaway.info to find a job. There are other websites like that. But this one has more options. You can easily find jobs from all over the world. You just have to pay a little to become a member. Later you just choose the country and the city and see the host list. Every host writes what they want. Also, you can see the references from other workawayers about the host. If you think that a host okay for you, you can send a message to the host and talk about suitable dates.

I wanted to meet other travelers and be with young people. So I chose a hostel to work in. But besides that, there are jobs like teaching English or working on a farm. I want to have experience on farms. But I will do that in Colombia. Because I want to have fun on the beach in Chile. So I will look for hostels again.

Basically, I am working in reception here. After I finish my shift, I throw away the garbage and clean the floor of the toilets. They are making weekly shifts. They always wrote me for the night shift. So I am working from 00:00 till 08:00. I could just sleep in the mornings and I feel like I’m a vampire ☺️

And my first shift was on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So I had to deal with a lot of drunk people. They invited me to the clubs even if I said I was working. Some of them were crying. Because they lost their friends in the club. Some of them wanted to help me with the cleaning. They just should have slept! I was just thinking “Am I like that when I’m drunk? I should stop to drink!” (I won’t 😁)
Where I stay is supporting the artists as well. When I came here, there was another Turkish guy who painted on the walls of the hostel. It was good to speak Turkish after a month 😌

After I spend a month here, I will visit Mendoza for a few days and go to Santiago de Chile. Thanks to my friend living there, I will try to find a job where I earn money. And I will print my drawings to sell on the streets. Because Argentina and Chile are expensive countries and I spent more money than I planned. So I have to earn some money to keep going. So traveling for a year is not like you imagine. We are not rich. Every traveler does something on the road. Otherwise, you cannot finish this journey.

One tip. It’s possible to find a job by asking to the hostels directly. Because there are a lot of travelers doing this. So they’re used to that. I use this website to be sure before going there. But if you’re in a city and seeking a job, just ask them.

Let’s talk about Cordoba. It is one of the oldest cities in Argentina. It is not a big city. But it settled between mountains. So you can go to the mountains for hiking or camping. Also, this is the city where Che Guevara grew up. He came to the village of Cordoba with his family to find a cure for his asthma. You can visit the house where he grew up as a museum. You have to take a bus to go there. In the museum, we bought a triple ticket. Because there were other museums in that village, Alta Gracia. But I have no idea who they are. I was just walking around and saying “Hmm I guess he is another important person”.
