Sanırım artık otostop çekmek ile ilgili yazımı yazmanın zamanı geldi. Çünkü otostop çekerken birçok hata yaptım ama birçok şey de öğrendim. Aynı şekilde yola düşeceklere de tecrübelerimi yazarak yardımcı olabilirsem ne mutlu bana. Benim gibi bazı gezginlerin sıkça kullandığı bir yöntem otostop. İlk otostop deneyemim Rosario’dan Cordoba’yaydı. 3 kamyon değiştirdim ve 9 saatte Cordoba’ya vardım. İkinci otostop seyahatimi ise Cordoba’dan Mendoza’ya gerçekleştirdim. 1 araba ve 2 kamyon değiştirdim ve 14 saatte Mendoza’ya vardım. Yolculuk boyunca güvendeydim ve kötü bir deneyim yaşamadım.

Aranızdan birileri de otostop çekerek seyahat etmeyi planlıyorsa verdiğim tavsiyeler ile güvenli bir şekilde yola düşebilirler. Yola çıkmadan önce bilmen gereken şeyler var. Otostop öncesi hem bazı hazırlıklar yapmalı hem de dersine iyi çalışmalısın. Ben bu süreci ikiye ayırarak açıklayacağım.

OTOSTOP ÖNCESİ

Öncelikle nereden nereye gideceğine karar vermelisin. Daha sonra da bulunduğun yerden gitmek istediğin yere hangi anayol gidiyor bunu öğrenmen gerekiyor. Ben her zaman yerel insanlara soruyorum. Yol hakkında her şeyi öğrenip de hangi toplu taşımanın beni oraya götüreceğini öğrendikten sonra kendime bir karton buluyorum ve üzerine gideceğim yerin adını yazıyorum. Ben her zaman kendime küçük bir çanta hazırlıyorum. İçine yiyecek içeceklerimi, pasaportumu ve para, kamera gibi değerli eşyalarımı koyuyorum. Eğer araç mola verdiyse sadece bu minik çantamı alıp tuvalete gidiyor veya araçtan dışarı çıkıyorum. Böylece araçta değerli hiçbir eşyamı bırakmamış oluyorum.

OTOSTOP ESNASINDA

Eğer kolayca araç bulmak istiyorsan, bekleyeceğin yeri iyi seçmen gerekiyor. Ben her zaman benzin istasyonlarına yakın yerleri seçiyorum. Eğer kimse durmazsa benzincide duran insanlara direkt sormak iyi olabiliyor. Ayrıca benzinciler 24 saat açık oluyor. Olur da çok beklersen, tuvalet su gibi ihtiyaçlarını buradan rahatça giderebilirsin.

Diğer yandan evet anayola çıkman gerekiyor. Ama git de kuş uçmaz kervan geçmez bir yerde bekle demiyorum. Ben otoyola bakarken beklemek için şehrin en dışındaki mahalleyi veya hemen dışındaki yerleşkelere bakıyorum. Yani insanların olduğu bir noktada bekliyorum. Aynı gün içinde istediğin yere varamazsan konaklamak için kolayca yer bulabilirsin böylece. Herhalde otoban kenarında uyumak istemezsin.

Yola çıkış saatin de bir o kadar önemli. Sabah erkenden yola çıkman şart. Hem sabah otostop çekmek daha güvenli hem varacağın yere zamanında varmış olacaksın. Gece otostop çekme dememe gerek var mı? Yok. ☺️ Ayrıca kamyonlar yavaş yol alıyor ve yola erken çıkıyorlar. Sen de yola erken çıkarsan araç bulma şansın yüksek olur. Son olarak kamyonlar şehir merkezlerine giremedikleri için seni şehrin hemen dışında otobana bırakacaklardır. Erken çıkarsan seni gecenin bir yarısı otobanda bırakmış olmayacaklar. Yola sabahtan çıkman için birçok sebep var. Hepsini saymama gerek yok bence. Özetle sabah erken uyan güzel kardeşim.

Kolay araç bulmanın bir diğer anahtarı da temizlik. Yolun kenarında evsizler gibi durma. Yola çıkmadan duşunu al. Kimse aracına pis birini kabul etmez. Ayrıca daha kolay fark edilmek için açık renk kıyafetler giy. Ah tabii bir de abuk subuk şeyler giyme. Olabildiğince normal gözük. 😀 Şimdiki tavsiyeler kızlar için. Otostop çekeceğim zaman daha kapalı şeyler giymeye özeniyorum. Kısa bir etek veya şort giymiyorum. Sapıkları davet etmeyecek şekilde giyinirseniz daha güvenli bir otostop çekmiş olursunuz.

Her şey hazırsa, yola çıkıp parmağını kaldırmaya hazırsın! Beklerken nereye gitmek istediğini yazdığın kağıdı göstermeyi unutma. Birisi durduğunda nereye gittiklerini sor ve araçtaki insanları hızlıca incele. Unutma. Hangi araca bineceğini seçme hakkın var. Eğer garip bir şey sezinlediysen veya sürücü hoşuna gitmediyse binme. Well, it’s time to write about hitchhiking, I guess. Because I made some mistakes and learned a lot of things on the road and I want to share with everyone to help you as well. Some travelers like me choose to hitchhike for the experience or for the economic issues. Generally, it seems dangerous, especially for female travelers. But if you prepare well, there is nothing to worry about.

My first hitchhike was from Rosario to Córdoba. I changed 3 trucks and I arrived to Cordoba in 9 hours. My second hitchhike was from Córdoba to Mendoza. I changed 1 car and 2 trucks and it lasted 14 hours to arrive in Mendoza. I was all safe right during the trip and didn’t have any bad experiences with them.

So if anyone of you is thinking to hitchhike, I am giving the tips for a safe trip. Let’s go! 👍

There are a few things you should know before hitting the road. You have to prepare yourself and study your lesson! I divide this into two steps.

BEFORE HITCHHIKE

First, you have to decide where you will go. Later you should learn which route is going to your city. I always ask local people about this. They know all of the routes and plus, they know which public transportation goes close to that route. Once you have the information, it’s your turn. You may go to another city which is far away from your current location. At this point, you have to investigate the route very well. Because you cannot always find a car which directly goes to your destination. So if you learn which cities or towns are on the route, you can get in a car that goes to the next town and hitchhike again there. On the other hand, if you know all of about the route, they cannot deceive you. Think about it. Maybe they’ll tell you they’re going to the next town and you’ll be like “Oh, cool. I am coming with you”. But in the end, you’ll realize you’re in the wrong direction. Nobody wants that! So study your lesson, boy.

After I learn everything about the route and which bus is going there, I prepare a board for myself and write wherever I want to go. The other important part is to prepare your backpack. You never know how much you’ll wait for a lift. So you better make some sandwiches for yourself and take some fruit. Don’t forget the water. And my friend, you should have some toilet paper with you. I repeat you don’t know how much you’ll wait. So nature can call you! 😀 If it’s sunny, taking sunglasses, a hat, and sun cream can be useful as well.

I always make a little bag. I put my food and water, my passport, my valuable stuff like my camera, and my money. If we stop at a gas station or if I need to go to the bathroom, I just take that bag. So I don’t leave anything valuable in the car, just my backpack.

Did you prepare everything? GREAT! Let’s go to the route and find a lift.

DURING HITCHHIKE

If you want to find a lift easily, you should find a good spot for yourself. I always go to a place near a gas station. So if nobody stops, I can just go to ask people where they’re going and if they can lift me. Gas stations are open 24 hours as well. If you need anything like going to the bathroom or buying some water, you’ll be fine.

On the other hand, yes, you should be on the main road. But I don’t mean to wait in the middle of nowhere. When I study the route, I always find a spot that is close to a neighborhood or a town. So wait in a place where there’ll be other people. And if you cannot find a ride on the same day, you’ll have the chance to stay in a hotel there. I guess you don’t want to sleep near the highway. 🙃

Timing is another important part. Go to the route in the morning early. Hitchhiking is safer in the morning. Don’t hitchhike at night. Also, trucks start to work very early in the morning. So you have more chance to find something if you wake up early. Another important piece of info about trucks is they go very slowly. If you hit the road in the afternoon and find a truck, you can arrive pretty late. And trucks cannot enter the city centers. They’ll probably drop you in another close town to your destination or on the highway. So if you arrive earlier wherever you want, it’s safer for you. Conclusion: Just go to the route EARLY. It is better for a lot of reasons.

A key to finding a ride easily is cleanliness. Don’t look like a hobo. Be clean. Take a shower before hitchhiking. Nobody wants a smelly cat in his/her car. And wear something light color. So raise your chance to be visible. And also don’t wear weird things hahaha. This tip is for girls. I don’t prefer to wear a skirt or too short pants while hitchhiking. No need to invite the perverts. So if you just put on jeans and a normal tee, it will be better for a safe trip.

If everything is okay, just stand by the road and thumb up! Don’t forget to show your paper which is written where you wish to go. Once somebody stops by, ask them where they are going and analyze the face. Remember. You DO HAVE the right to choose the car. If you don’t like the driver or feel something weird, say thank you and continue to wait. It is all about your sixth sense. You should trust your gut feeling.

The other important tip is: Don’t expect to find a ride that goes directly there. If they are going halfway, jump in the car. It’s always better than waiting for hours.

I always talk with the driver and tell my story. They always ask me about my trip, my culture, and my country. Don’t be shy. Talk to them. This is the best part of hitchhiking. Learning something new and sharing good moments. Otherwise, it would be like taking a bus. They are not your driver. They take you in their car to help you. So be nice! ☺️

From my experiences, I learned a lot of things about the country. I had perfect memories. They always offered me their food or bought me a coffee in a gas station. Some of them asked me to give them money to take a taxi where they dropped me off. Other ones took my number and wanted me to write them when I arrive safely.

As I said for million times, I DO STILL BELIEVE there are good people in this world. They are like you or me. You just go out and find them. Not everybody wants to kill you or steal something from you. So don’t be afraid to meet them.
The last thing! There is a website that I use to look for good locations to hitchhike. It is hitchwiki.org. It is a kind of forum and it has a map on which hitchhikers pin the locations and add comments about it. It’s very useful. Because it has tips about every country as well. So you can find detailed information and general ones, too.
